Stuart Hall developed the reception theory which asserts that media texts are encoded and decoded. As the producer encodes messages through their media work, the audience will decode it; however, due to the individual differences of the audience members, they will decode the media in different ways and possibly a different way in which the producer originally intended. With 'The Bridge' being a Scandinavian nordic noir TV series, they have audiences globally; global reach in media production is available to view in many countries which in this case is BBC.
