Statement of Aims
Throughout this statement of aims I will be focusing on my cross media production of both my magazine cover that includes a double page spread as well as my music video. In order to favour a young audience which will be majority 16 to 25 year olds, my print product will consist of the magazine brand name being ‘Reminisce’ which I will portray to be a fashion and entertainment magazine with similarities to Vogue and Elle as I am taking a lot of inspiration from those magazine brands. Taking interests from popular mainstream media, I will also include these in my music video to grasp the attention and engage my target audience.
Foremost, regarding my print product which in this case is my magazine cover called ‘Reminisce’, I will include a main image that conveys a powerful message that women of colour deserve to be represented in the music industry more. I would also like to challenge society’s stereotypes towards women and by being able to illustrate that I will make my artist, MAE, wear a suit instead of a dress or what people may see as ‘feminine clothing’ to show that clothing does not have a gender and that it is a social construct that was taught over the years. Moreover, I will use a large and bold font in the colour maroon/red as it symbolises competence and dominance which women have as well as men. To add, my double page spread will consist of an interview that will reveal my artist's star persona and concepts of the music video. It will also include rhetorical questions to provoke the target audience as well as a pull quote which will be motivational and all about self love within every person.
My music video is about self love and self importance, therefore, in my music video I will use a warm toned lighting to connote a sense of reality and comfort within the artist and how she is learning how to love and express herself. In the beginning of the music video, the main star will be alone at a train station and once she puts in her airpod and then there will be a change in scenery where her friends will be present and a change of lighting to a ambient one to one with many different colours; this will represent music being a sense of escape but also the artist will be acting different around the people around her. There will be a scene where the artist is surrounded with her friends and then a transition where she is alone in a field to symbolise freedom and focusing on yourself rather than constantly impressing others. Furthermore, I will also include a range of different camera angles for example, when the star of the music video is alone there will be a drone which starts off as a close up shot and it lifts higher to a wide angle shot showing the scenery. The music video will have a connection to the lyrics of the song for example, one of the lyrics is “Wish i was just like you” and this will be seen in the beginning where the main star is with her friends and her self esteem is at her lowest.
