Initial Narrative: 

The song "Butterfly by UMI," is about gaining acceptance in yourself and enabling that source of self-love as well as not trying to impress other people by changing how you are. The main lead is learning and exploring different parts of their mind and opening themselves to discover new experiences instead of trapping themselves inside a box of what society and other people want them to be. In the past, the main lead would run away from their problems as they see that this is the lighter and easier path to go down however at the end of the day they find themselves in a deeper hole causing them to lose their state of mind, losing themselves from reality, from themselves. 

In the beginning of the music video it will show the main lead in a depressed state, when with other people they are more likely to conform for what the other people think and not for their own personal wants and beliefs. This then causes them distress and anger towards themselves for not being able to open up/having the courage to. It then progresses to the main lead separating themselves from the toxic people in their life and they find themselves by themselves for a period of time causing them to truly find themselves and find the self acceptance and self love that they have been craving all along. This then enables the main lead to allow faith choose her future paths which goes on to the ending of the music video where they find a new group of people who genuinely make them happy and they do not feel like they need to change for anyone else.

Initial ideas for technical codes:

At the beginning of the music video, the lighting will be dull and cold, hints of blue lighting. There will be many single close up shots to highlight how alone the main lead really feels, not really showing to much of the other toxic people. The other people will have their backs faced to the camera, their faces not shown. They will be constantly (implicitly) harassing the main lead. The main lead will show how uncomfortable they are through facial expressions: fake smiles, covering up their body etc. 

Throughout the music video, the lighting will gradually become more brighter indicating a sudden change in mood, enlighten the mood of the music video. At the very end, the lighting will be a soft film lighting with a higher key light creating a soft and comfortable and friendly atmosphere connoting that the main lead feels at ease and finally at peace. At the end of the music video, I will introduce some long shots of nice scenery preferable a forest and a lot of greenery to represent freedom and peace. Everyone will be wearing white at the end symbolising that theres no more pain and suffering and no more aggression.

Analyse the representation of gender in 'the man' and 'riptide' (800 words) In both music videos of "The Man'' by Taylor Swift and "Riptide" by Vance Joy, they both explore the theme of gender and have a similar way of representing the stereotypes that are involved. In riptide, there is a camera shot of a woman facing away from the camera whilst undressing; this indicates that she was unaware that she was being recorded which suggests that women are vulnerable and can easily be manipulated. In addition, this not only depicts women as weak and fragile, but it also sexualises them as recording a woman undressing and showing a lot of skin without their consent views them as objects where society (mostly men) are able to degrade and dehumanise them. PAPER 2 A TELEVISION : Life on Mars text analysis

 Summarise key points about s1e1 of Life on Mars: Genre: When watching the first episode of the first season of Life on Mars, I immediately knew that it was part of the crime genre due to the scenery it was set in and the upbeat music in the background. However, Life on Mars can be argued to be part of the sci-fi genre due to the fact that the main character (Sam Taylor) is seen to have travelled back 30 years to 1973 when, in the beginning, he states he that it was the year 2006. This is seen to be ironic for a typical crime drama as, according to Neale's genre theory, he believes that films and series' should include features that are similar which is different in this particular series as we do not typically associate crime and sci-fi in the same category.
